Heart diseases are among the most common health problems of modern man. Heart problems can occur from birth (congenital heart defects and rhythm disorders), but also at any age in the case of acquired diseases. Heart examinations are also performed on healthy people as part of systematic preventive examinations on people of all ages, on athletes, pregnant women, in preparation for major surgical intervention, etc.

Echocardiographic examination

Ultrasound examination of the heart is today one of the most informative and precise non-invasive diagnostic methods in cardiology. It provides information about the appearance, size and function of the heart. Data on blood flow through the heart and large blood vessels, with a color representation of the way and speed of blood movement, are especially valuable. Numerous new techniques have been developed that provide the cardiologist with a large amount of valuable information crucial for quick and accurate diagnosis.

Review of contrast echocardiography - Prof. Dr. Ida Jovanović

Contrast echocardiography is a supplementary echocardiographic technique used to obtain specific information about certain diseases. It is most often used in the diagnosis of small communications in the heart and for better visualization of the left ventricle in case of heart failure. It is carried out by injecting "contrast" into the patient's vein during the ultrasound examination, which can be an ordinary infusion liquid prepared in a special way or a factory-prepared liquid with microbubbles of air.
